The Lone Wolf

Intro: We all want a pack, but this wolf has learned they are better off alone. Read the trauma of the lone wolf and here her story of why she runs alone. A sad but thriving tale of growth and change.

Through the midnight’s light, there is a pack of wolves. They are young like you, but they have the confidence to speak their mind and live outside the box. You walked over to join, and it was nice. To play, to laugh, to feel as though you would never be alone. Then one day you wake up with beaten paws and bitten legs. You remember what happened, you stumbled upon a territory that wasn’t your own and when you tried to walk away peacefully, they bullied you. You look back to your pack and notice they are gone. They were supposed to have your back, but instead they ran away.

So, the wolves jumped you and you awake in pain. You try to find your pack and when you do, you see them give you a ‘look’. A look that can only be defined as guilt. You try to approach them and they run. What did you do wrong to lose your pack? All you did was be yourself and because one accident happens, they bail. You walk down a lonely path in pain and come to realize they were never your true friends. So, you walk down this dark path, hoping your paws will heal, but you know they won’t. Friends are hard to come by and when you thought you met your sisters, they betray you, and it makes it harder to make new friends.

Years go by on this dark path and your paws have healed the best they could but you are still left with scars. Then you see a light, you run towards it trying to finally find warmth. When you enter the meadows, you see this big white wolf with the most striking hazel eyes. It was playing with his pups. You didn’t want to intrude so, you kept your distance and went to the far other side to absorb the warmth before leaving. Days went past and you could not stop staring at this wolf. There was something about him that attracted you to him. It made it hard to leave. You had doubts about approaching him because your confidence was low, but you took a chance. He sees you and slowly walks to you.

The meet was electrifying, his fur was soft and his aura gave off a leader. Someone who could lead a pack. You wanted to learn from him and learn to stand on your own, like him. Because even though he had no pack, he learned to live on his own and you wanted to learn too. They bonded and as the years went by, she was madly in love with him. He felt the same but there was something stopping him from embracing her completely. They mated of course, but that wolf’s emotional side was hidden. You try your best to get in but this wolf would not break. Until one day, one of his pups was in an accident. Almost taken away and it was because he was not there for the pup because he was hanging with you. You both felt awful but instead of working it out, the other wolf insisted he stay closer to his family and their love, never died, but was put on hold.

Still through the years the wolf had hope he would come back. They stayed in communication through howls, but one day the howls stopped. The wolf grew worried and even though you dare not overstep, you can’t help but run. You learned a lot from him about how to sneak, how to hunt, and how to fight, so finding him was easy. When you peak through the bushes, you see him. The wolves pups are by his side, they have grown. He was playing with them. You hear noise coming from the side and when you look over, you see a pack of wolves. They approached him and you thought a fight was about to happen but instead, they bowed. You knew right then and there that wolf you loved was no longer alone like you. He claimed a pack and he was their leader.

You want to be mad, you want to cry, you want to bite his neck; but how can you, when he is no longer your mate and is allowed to do what he needs to do for his future. You take one last look at the wolf. Remembering all the good times you had and the one thing that kept you in common was the need to not be like the other wolf’s and to be different. But, now the tides have changed and you know if you try to join the pack, you would never fit in. The one lesson you never got the chance to learn was how to be confident like him. You take a step back and when you do, you slip off a cliff.

You tumble from the hurt and the pain, of once again having no one you can trust, no place to belong, no place to call home. You limp towards a willow tree and decide to stay there until you are healed. Even though your paws will heal, your heart will not. It’s times like this you miss your mothers den, but she is no more and you must learn to survive on your own. A tear slides down your face as you realize this tree will be your home. You have given up on the chance to find a pack, because the wolves you let in before, only caused hurt. You know they didn’t mean to, but your heart can’t take anymore betrayals. So, the lone wolf walks alone never to be seen again.

When you see those who are alone, some may choose to be, while others do not. Either way just know there is a reason, they choose to walk alone. So, don’t judge.
