First Snow

Introduction: A demon girl and an angel solider embark on a trip to see the human worlds first snow of the year. As they travel by train, someone is keeping a secret that could change both their lives forever.

"WE AREN'T GOING TO MAKE IT!" I screamed. He pulls me harder and as always shows me that positive smile.

"Doors closing." The station train spoke as we breathed heavily behind the doors. He looks at me and winks. I roll my eyes as we take a seat.

"See Lilith we made it. Just in time too. We will see humans' first snow fall tonight. As an Angel, I won't break my promise. You deserve it." Christian professed.

"We deserve it, idiot..." I mumbled. He gave me the 'what did you say' look and I can't help but turn towards the window. We were on our way to Minnesota to see the first snow fall of the year. We would choose somewhere better, but being on the run doesn't allow for far travel. We needed to stay in the shadows. Our human disguises only last in the morning, so at nightfall our power levels attract unwanted attention.

None of this would have happened if I started in the demon world. All demons were bound to the underworld and it was only during nightfall we were allowed to roam the woods. These rules were put in place by the Angel race. If we broke that rule, the price was our head. Since I can remember, we have always been at odds with the heavenly gods, but for the humans sake because they provide both our worlds with energy based upon their beliefs. We put our battles aside to help better each of our worlds.

One night I went roaming along the beachfront. I should have stayed in the forest but I wanted to see the full moon over the ocean. It was bright and beautiful, but so was the man underneath it. He was glowing like the moon and his long brown hair flowed with the wind.     'Crack'

He turns to me and he is lost in a stare. His eyes were glowing white like his skin and I knew I was in trouble. He sprouts his wings and before I could run, he grabs my arm.

"Please don't go, I won't hurt you." he said. His aura was calm and I knew he spoke the truth. I decided to stay and watch the moon. For six months we always met up near the water to talk. We talked about our worlds, our favorite foods, and our beliefs. Christian told me how he hates his race for treating demons like monsters. He wanted to make a change but his 'father' would not listen. God was everyone's father up there. No angel was born the normal way like humans and demons were. Christian had the status of his right-hand soldier and could speak his mind to him.

One night, we were talking about our dreams and wishes.

"You have never seen this world's snow?!" he asked, shocked.

"No, but I want to. Usually around the winter season, the humans' beliefs are stronger towards the Angels, so our barriers become stronger and we become weaker in magic to form portals to leave. So, we are basically stuck in the underworld until spring." I explained. He gently places his hand on mine. It was warm which felt nice on my skin. He smiles at me and through the reflection in his eyes, I remember who I am and turn away.

"Well, winter starts here in a week but I know the state where snowfall will hit first before any other place...I could take you there if you trust me." he said. I take his hand and lace our fingers together. For the first time, I felt my eyes glow with heat and desire. My skin glowed red with embarrassment and my hair went ablaze.

    "Okay, I trust you."

Here we are now on a Metra train to another state. I was able to use all my magic to form a portal out of the demon world to meet him. He would help me get back using his own magic when we returned after the weekend.

"Hey do you think..." I stop talking when his head lays on my shoulder. Even in his human form there were bags under his eyes. I wonder what kept him up so late and then I notice cuts on his hands. Something happened before we met up at the beach this morning. A man walks past us and when I notice his tropical shirt, it was the same shirt from the beach. That same man had walked past us and he suddenly glared at us for no reason.

"Is he following us?" I whispered. Hunters in the morning were rare these days because we only came out at night. As he looks back at us, I notice he wasn't looking at me but Christian.

"Don't pay him any mind. He won't hurt me as long as I stay in line." Christian whispered with his eyes closed.

"Did he put those cuts on your hand?"

"Yes, but only because I lost in battle. Trying to be different, to feel different and I failed, but I will get you to the snow." he promised. The train reaches its stopping point and we are now in Minnesota, Hermantown. The sun was setting so we needed to find a place to sleep before our disguises vanished. He leads me to a car labeled taxi and he tells him to take him to a hotel near Spirit Mountains. I watch the driver's eyes glow and after an hour ride we are in front of a hotel. Christian uses his powers to get us a room and once we are inside I form a magic barrier.

    "A barrier?" he asked.

"Yes, I know you said that man wouldn't hurt us, but I don't trust him. He hurt you and I know I'm probably the reason why you two were fighting in the first place. So I'm sorry..."

"Don't apologize, this is not your fault. The truth is...The truth is..." He tried to speak but he kept repeating the same phrase. almost like someone was stopping him from talking. I used my sight to look at his throat and saw magic was on it. What did this man do to him and why can't he speak the truth? I place my hand on his shoulder and he stops. We sit on the bed and I rub his back.

"It's okay, I can see the spell on your neck, so I won't force you to say something you can not. Thank you for risking everything for me, I can't repay you enough. You are an amazing person and I wish we could be together more often." I confessed. He was an Angel so I didn't expect him to understand my emotions on being a demon and being hated by most. He looks at me with his soft gaze and hugs me.

"You are not....a monster...you are beautiful and kind. I....you are more than a friend to me." he stuttered. I hug him back and when we part, I kiss his cheek. His face goes red as he runs into the bathroom.

It was nightfall and all the humans were asleep. He opens the balcony door and sprouts his wings. I do the same and I follow him up the forest mountain. I sense someone behind us and I see the man from before in his true form. He was an angel and from his muscular build like Christian, he had to be one of God's soldiers. We made it to the top of the mountain and the view was beautiful. I could see the whole city from here. We stand at the edge and wait for midnight.

"If you smile too hard your face will freeze." he teased. I gently push him and he laughs.

"I'll be fine, I have fire powers. I'm more worried about you. Your race doesn't have thick skin." I informed.

"True, but we have an immense glow to help keep warm..." He grabs my hand and smirks.    "...plus, I have a fire demon to help keep me from turning into an ice block."

"Yeah, today has been great, especially trying human food. A part of me wants this to never end. I hate not seeing you until spring once we return, but maybe it's for the best so you won't keep getting in trouble." I added. He squeezes my hand tighter and when I look at him, his eyes are glowing white.

    "Christian?..."

"I LOVE YOU LILITH!" he screams.

'POW!' A light beam goes straight through his heart. I look at the man who shot him as he flies away. I form a fire ball and blast it in his direction. It catches his left wing and he falls. Christian begins to cough up blood.

"What?! Why?! I need to get you to your people to heal you!" I was about to lift him when he shook his head.

"Don't it's my fault, I broke our agreement and I paid the price..."

    "What agreement?!"

"Confessing my love to...you...that's why my neck had a spell on it and if I broke it. My comrade would see the red glow and shoot me. It is forbidden to love a demon, but my heart could only think of you." he explained. His bleeding would not slow as I applied pressure and tried to heal him with my own powers. It didn't work, it was like his body was rejecting my magic.

"Don't use up all of your magic on me. Our agreement for letting me take you to see the snow meant, if I confessed, I would die a death no magic can heal...."

"Why this Christian?! I'm nothing but a low rate demon who has no importance like you. You gave your life for a monster!" I cried. He wipes my tears and smiles.

"You are not a monster. Doing this for you, knowing we could never be together was my way of showing you how much you mean to me. When I first saw you on the beach that day, I was stunned by beauty. I didn't see a demon, but a woman whose light was equal to my own.     You made me laugh and smile these last six months. Getting to be myself around you when everyone else saw me as a soldier, it made me feel seen and heard. I couldn't get you out of my mind and I liked it. I wish we never got caught on the beach last week and we could run away and be free....but I could not live a life without you knowing how you really make me feel." he confessed.

All this time, he developed the same feelings as me and I constantly kept pushing him away because of who I am and he sacrificed everything to be here with me. My body goes red with compassion.

"I LOVE YOU TOO! Everything we have done together has made me happy! I don't want them to end. I want to be with you Christian, please don't..." I stop talking when a snowflake hits my face. I look up and see the snow falling. Soft flurries filled the sky and floated above the city. Cascading over the mountain and trees. My aura glows a crimson red from the amazement. It was pure and...

"Beautiful." we both said. I look at him and saw he wasn't looking at the snow. I caress his face and kiss his lips. He turns to light as the snow continues to fall. I sit at the peak of the hill and watch my first snow fall.

    "Thank you..."
