Mission 5: Masked Bandit
“Bring it on!” I screamed. I was training with one of our agents. I wanted to master the art of the bow staff when I couldn’t use my guns.
“Remember to keep your stance firm, so your opponent can’t knock you down,” he stated. I nod and he charges at me. I was able to block his blows but he was fast. I mean road runner fast. Yeah, that’s right, I said road runner. His DNA is infused with ancient road runner DNA from before they went existent. So, he was fast and it was hard to keep up. He sweeps me under the feet and his staff is on my throat. I tap the floor to surrender.
“Good match. You are getting better, but for right now keep guns as your first choice of weapons.” he said, helping me up. I hand the staff back and grab my things. Ring! The lights began to flash and it only meant one thing.
“Intruder!” I said. We leave the dojo and split up. All the agents begin to run around and check each place to make sure it’s clear. I head to our secret dungeon filled with magic relics and see our intruder. Whoever this person was, they were not human. They looked like a human raccoon. Fur all over their body and claws as sharp as mine. It looks at me and I can see it is female. She dashes off and I see she has an amulet in her hands. I dash after her and she slashes a water fountain. The water blinds me and when I look she is gone.
“Fuck she stole the Sun Amulet!” I turn and see BEAST. The sun amulet is a rare necklace made by a group of monks in the mountains. They prayed to the Greek gods all the time and because of all their worship, the sun god Helios gave them an amulet to keep them warm in the mountains. Some people thought this was all a myth, even I did, until we discovered it in a collapsed cave. That amulet gave whoever wore it the power of the sun.
I could smell the air and her scent was still strong. I looked out a nearby window and saw her running out of the building. I shoot the glass and jump out.
“Bring it back in one piece!” BEAST yelled. I impact the ground and it makes her lose her balance. She looks at me and growls. I unleash my claws and she steps back with shock. I guess she assumed we were all human. I run at her and she jumps into a tree. I slash it and it falls. She lands on her feet and dashes at me. We engage in a claw fight. I had to admit her claws were strong, almost metal, but they couldn’t beat mine.
“As fun as this is, return the necklace now. You have no idea how powerful it is if given to the wrong person. They could destroy the world.” I explained. She slashes my stomach and I back away. She takes off running. I roll my eyes as my wound heals. I call upon my speed and grab her tail.
“Don’t touch my tail!” she screams in pain. It was wrong, but her scream was actually funny. I smirk while squeezing it harder. Smoke fills the air and when it clears there is a real racoon in front of me.
“I told you not to touch her tail!” I turn around to see a woman dressed in black with a mask over her eyes.
“Explains how this thing was talking without moving its mouth. You are?” I asked. The raccoon slips under me with the amulet.
“Lady Bandit is the name and controlling raccoons is my game. I can even morph them at will…Now, I am supposed to give this amulet to a client, but if it’s that powerful then maybe I will keep it for myself. Screw the government as they say…” before she could finish I ran up to her and swiped the amulet.
“Shorter intro next time…ah!” The raccoon jumps on me and claws my face. I tossed it aside but I was too late, she was placing the amulet on her.
“Hey Beck, you’re going to need this!” BEAST calls from up above. I look up and see my suit. “I upgraded it to be more sun and flame resistant,” he said. I grab it and it begins to wrap around my body.
“Nice tux.” she snorted. I see her whole body glow with power. I needed to get it off of her before she loses her mind. There is a reason why only the monks could wear it. They were more at peace with their problems and emotions than most humans. So, they could handle the power. I shoot my gun and the bullets melt on impact.
“Alright no weapons then.” I thought. Bandit forms a sun ball and throws it. I remember HQ was behind me, so I could not move. I guess it was time to test out this suit. I brace for impact and when the ball hits me, I see its energy absorb into my suit. I relax after that and quickly summon my inner beast. I dash behind her and leg sweep her to the ground. I reach for the amulet but I feel someone touch my back. I see this same racoon except it was human-size again and glowing yellow.
“Fuck!” I mumbled. I get tossed across the yard as it releases its fire claws. I stand with haste and dodge each attack. I see an opening and I kick dirt in its eyes. I shoot my gun and this time it hits its target. The racoon deforms and it is bleeding out.
“Ivan!” Bandit screams. The ground begins to shake and when I turn around I see her floating in the air.
“Crap…of course she cares about this racoon.” I spoke. I see a nearby tree and run towards it. I leap branch by branch until I am close enough to her. She sees me and several fire spears come at me. I extend my claws and slice a nearby branch. I jump from the tree and hit each spear out of my way. Bandit eyes go wide as I am right above her. I slam her to the ground with my branch. She looks at me with rage. Her eyes caught fire and I could tell she was about to lose control. I needed to get that amulet off.
I ran at her and she formed a wall of fire. I take a breath and summon a power I haven’t used in years. “ROAR!” I yelled. A sonic screech that has the power to demolish anything in my way; including fire.
“Stay back or I will…huh?” Bandit looked at herself and saw her arm was catching on fire. The necklace was about to consume her whole. “What is happening?!” she yells.
“Take the amulet off now!” I command. She looks at me with confusion. I step closer and she raises her hand. Another fireball launches and this time I slice it in half. I was sick of her not listening to me. I dash at high speed and before she could turn around, I roar into her ears.
“Ah!!!” she yells in pain. Blood flows down her ears as she collapses. I slice the amulet off her neck and place it in my pocket. BEAST and the ER team join me and take her to the clinic.
“Good job, Beck.” BEAST mentioned as I handed him the amulet. He immediately drops it. “God damn that thing is hot!” he hisses. I couldn’t help but laugh at his actions. Nothing is better than laughing after almost getting cooked by the sun.
“Agent Beck out.”
