Crescent Moon CH 3.5

 caution long reading ahead...

Well like he said and making cake we had begun. Of course, he had no idea how to make my Blueberry Pie cake, so I had to show him. The only reason we were baking was that he thought it would calm my mind and not make me want to throw up as he explained the questions, I asked him yesterday when in his room before I childishly stormed out.

“What?! Are you serious all this is happening because of a break-up?!” Alex had told me that the reason the war is starting out of all days, when it could have happened years ago when Ella died 18 years ago was because of a stupid break up. He told me that the leader of the angels Paradisa and the ruler of the underworld Lo’Gan use to go together for over 17 years, but then they had a huge argument over power, and they broke up. And because the hatred for each other grew as the years went by, they soon wanted each other and their people out of the picture. So, they declared war on one another.

“Yes, I’m afraid so.” he answered while stirring the berry compost, which goes in and on top of the cake. He turned off the fire to let it cool and helped me grease the pans. “The Heavens and Under were doing just fine after Ella's death when they were together, but once talk of bringing the Yin-Yang disc back into the picture and finding the Moon staff so they could have greater power. Turned their relationship wicked.” he said. I began to put half the compost in the cake batter and folded it in. Then poured it in the pans. Putting it in the oven.

“Wow, that’s crazy what made them get together in the first place? I mean was it even worth it considering who they both, you know are?” I saw his expression change to sadness while he was cleaning up our mess.

“Well, it wasn’t like this 18 years ago, back then there were no leaders for the Angels and Demons. They only took over because they both…” He stopped talking once my parents came into the kitchen.

“Hmm, something smells good. What are you guys making?” Dad questioned.

“It smells like dessert dear.” Mom answered.

“Ah, right you are Mr. and Mrs. Moon. Crescent here wanted to make a Blueberry Pie cake for you, and I didn’t want her to do it all by herself, so I decided to help her, so it could move along faster.” Alex said with his accent.

“Oh goodie. She hardly ever bakes for us anymore, so thank you, Honey.”

“You’re welcome, Mom, and Dad will you stop staring at the oven. I mean I just put the cake in!” I exclaimed.

“Oh fine.” he said sighing, and with that everyone including Alex started laughing.

Dinner was severed and it was magnificent, but the best part was my dessert of course. When everyone took their first bite, their faces lite up with joy. Alex even smiled with glee almost causing his hair to go red. I gave him a warning before my parents saw him and he quickly went back to normal. Once dishes were clean, we all went our separate ways by that I mean my parents went to bed early. Well at least I thought they did, but their creaking bed said otherwise. I rolled my eyes and went to my room to change into my famous white tank top and pink checkered pajamas.

Then when reading the legends book again to help better understand the Moon Priestess and how she would provide equal justice to all. The Yin-Yang disc came to my head, reminding me that Alex and I never finished our conversation. And since I didn’t have his number-heck, I didn’t even know if he had a phone- so I decided to go visit him. Walking down the narrow stairs with no light to help guide me, I reached the bottom of his stairs safely. I observed his door to notice the lock was unlocked, but when I knocked on the door there was no answer. But I did hear a shower like sound. What?! He has his own bathroom too…that’s so not fair! I thought. So, I waited patiently for him to come out, so he would hear the knock this time. The only reason I didn’t enter was that I didn’t want him mad at me again, like the last few times.

The water subsides, and I knocked on his door again. It opened with steam coming out almost blinding me. When it had cleared, I was in heaven. Alex was in just a towel still dripping wet, but that wasn’t the best part though. The best part was his show of muscular and broad chest in his demon form.

“Crescent…Crescent you’re drooling.” I heard him say, which snapped me out of my hot trans. He handed me a towel off a nearby dresser.

“Thank you and sorry to bother you it’s just I wanted to finish talking to you about the Yin-Yang disc. But I can always come back in the morning if you want.” I said getting ready to turn around and leave but he caught my arm. Even though he had claws and his skin temperature was hot, his touch was still gently, which sent shivers through my body. I guess he noticed and released my arm.

“Oh sorry, I forgot I was in my form and it’s no problem we can talk now. I mean I’m not busy and this would be the only place where we won’t be interrupted.” he said gesturing his hand to come in. Walking through his room it was just so clean, that I wanted to spill some water on the floor just to make it look normal. I mean even his towels on the dresser were neatly folded.

“Okay just give me a second to change and we can talk…and oh, do you need me to deform? I mean I can understand if you’re still not used to it yet and I don’t want to freak you out.” he suggested. “Or you could come over here and take me you fool.” I thought.

“No, you are fine. I mean there’s no use in wasting your powers just for me. I mean I actually like (love) your true form, so it’s cool.” I answered while shrugging. The door had closed, and I decided to explore his bookshelves. He wasn’t lying about loving Sherlock Holmes because I see the whole collection up here. But I also saw a book collection of recipes and proper etiquette. The book that interested me the most was a book on Yin-Yang fishes. I flipped through the pages and read some of the notes Alex had written down on some pages. Then when I finally reached the subject of Yang, I read a posted note that says “Key West, Florida” I whispered. I hear the bathroom door open, and I closed the book shut. That was a normal reaction when you were caught snooping again. I turned to see Alex staring at me, those red eyes just burning my soul making me confess.

“Sorry, I just wanted to see what kind of books you liked and then this book caught my attention.” He began to walk closer and took the book from my hand placing it back on the shelf.

“You know I don’t mind you looking at my books, but this one is doing the job you clearly asked me to do mi-lady.” he said with a hint of a jealous tone.

“Oh, wow is a simple book, making the almighty fire demon Alex Van Guard jealous?” I asked in joking tone while laughing. I must have made him embarrassed because his hair literally caught on fire and his face was full red.

“Why you!” He grabbed me and threw me on the bed. His bed was soft and nice, I could almost fall asleep in just one second. “What are you going to do, attack me?” I said smiling. He hovered over me, showing off his evil grin.

“No, of course not I would never attack you mi-lady, but this vision I’m about to show you will embarrass you like crazy.” he stated, kissing my forehead. A vision appeared of Alex watching me sleep and then him getting in my bed and stroking my hair while embracing me, all while I’m sucking my thumb, and to make it worse all this time I thought it was a dream. When it wasn’t, the vision went away and all I could hear was Alex laughing like there was no tomorrow. I punched him in his green tank which held his stomach.

“Ouch, you hit…like a man.” He said in pain. I smiled at his compliment.

“Well of course. I’m not exactly a girly-girl and I use to do cheerleading and gymnastics too. And that requires a lot of muscle power.”

“Yeah of course I know. Remember a watching knight in the shadows.” pointing at himself. I rolled my eyes at his comment.

“You suck at jokes, and anyway Mr. I know everything, do you know why I stopped both at the beginning of my senior year?” I asked.

“No. I was busy that day stopping a water angel from trying to poison you. But why? Why did you quit something you loved?”

“Thanks for that…and the reason I had to give it all up was that my left knee gave out.” showing him my surgery scar. “You see I was practicing for this summer cheerleading competition and when trying to do a simple backflip. My knee gave out and it popped. I had to get emergency surgery and for the rest of the summer and half my school year I was banned from active sports and by the time my knee was completely better, it was too late. I was already kicked off both teams. So instead of going pro like I planned and winning scholarships, so I could go to college for free. I realized that I was forever stuck here and had to move on to my second goal of somehow becoming a Caterer.” Alex placed his hand on mine and I gripped it tight.

“Yeah, I never knew what happened, but I know the pain you are feeling. To lose something you love, it can be hard to move on from it. Because it haunts you like a ghost.” I saw a sorrow look in his eyes making his red go dimmer.

“Hey, are you..” I was cut off by him getting up and bringing over the book I had before and a map to his bed. I leaned up so I could see it better. “Now you came down here for a reason and I don’t want to waste any time. I mean this may be the only chance we get to talk about this. Now I’m pretty sure you saw this posted note, already right?” he showed it to me. It was the posted note with Key West on it. I nodded in an agreeing motion.

“Now Key West, Florida is a mini island. It’s abandoned right now because of its legend claiming that the island sinks after the hottest day of the year. And tell me Crescent-just to see if you really were reading this book and not just glancing through it-what did you learn about Yang?” he questioned. It almost felt like an insult, but I chose to let that comment slide for now.

“Well, when I did read the book -before you came out the bathroom and interrupt me- I learned that Yang is the white fish of the sea. The pure whiteness stands for the good in the world, which can be represented by any object. Like the sun for instance and how the darkness of the sky could represent Yin too.” He smiled at the wise knowledge I gave him and as a response, I gave him a wink. See why reading is fundamental kids, it could possibly help you save the world one day.

“Exactly. Like you just said the Sun and the Darkness can represent both. So, I started doing research on the sun and when it would make its brightest appearance and I noticed huge spikes of sun rays in the months of August and around islands too.”

“Oh, I see why you chose Key West now, but what makes you so sure you got the right island?”

“Well, it’s all about when the sun rises every morning in the world. Now think, when the sun rises in North America what’s the first island the sun hits? I mean I know there are other islands in Mexico and the sun is hot there too, but it’s too obvious of a place for Paradisa to hide it. So, I thought of islands people would never think of going including the demons and angels and- “

“You came up with an island that’s abandon and could most likely sink too. That’s genius, I mean no one would go there and when I say no one I mean no one.”

“Right, so I had someone from the Justice organization-where I’m from-to check my inference and it was correct. Now if only it was this easy to find Yin.” I placed my hand on his shoulder giving him a supportive smile.

“I know time is short, but don’t worry we will find it and put an end to all of this.” I stated. He nodded and began to put the map away. I asked him if I could keep the book and he said okay, knowing that in order for me to pitch a hand. I needed to learn more about Yin.

“August 5th.”

“What about it Alex?” he sat back on the bed lifting his covers as I got up. “It’s a month from now when the sun is at its hottest. So that’s when we’ll leave for Key West and don’t worry I’ll make up an excuse for your parents, but we shouldn’t be gone long though.” he said.

“Oh okay.” I was getting ready to leave when a thought came to my head. I turned and walked towards his bed, jumping on top of him.

“What…what are you doing?!” he yelled. I hovered over him giving him a serious look.

“Trying to ask a question, that’s been bothering me all day.” I rolled over to his side and looked him in the eyes. “How did Ella die?” I asked. I saw his eyes go black with depression as he turned his face away.

“It’s all my fault” he whispered. I knew not to interrupt him by asking how but instead decided to listen and wait patiently. “Back when I was born, I was abandoned by both my parents, so to this day I still have no idea who they are. So, with me being left on the streets in the human world, Ella found me and took me in. She raised me like I was her own for many years and in return I promised to protect her with my life when I became her knight. But then that faithful day came and I failed as her knight. Paradisa and Lo’Gan were her bodyguards too.”. “No way!” I thought.

“And on that day, they brought her a drink from the kitchen, and when they brought it in I smelled toxicant in the air but I had no idea where it was coming from. Until it was too late, when I noticed it was her drink, she had already drunk it. Ella collapsed to the floor as I heard both of them giggling with joy. I was blind to not see their betrayal and because of it I lost my mother. Rage consumed me and I tried to kill them both but they were too powerful to handle myself. And they got away with both pieces of Yin and Yang. But that wasn’t the worst part, the worst part was watching my Ella die in my arms. Since you look exactly like her, all I want to do is protect you and not fail you again. I can’t watch you die again or I’ll lose it and my heart will truly break.” he explained his voice wavering. I never knew how bad it was for him and I truly felt sorry for him. I shed a few tears because I’m weak when it comes to sad stories.

Using all my strength I pulled him into an embrace, his head resting on my chest. I mean sure he was burning hot right now, but I didn’t mind. “Alex…I’m sorry. I had no idea it was like that and I never knew how much pain you kept inside your heart. But can I say this…It’s not your fault in the least. I mean who could have seen their betrayal and I can understand now why you hesitated when trying to tell me my destiny. But..” I made him look at me by tipping his chin.

“I promise you, that I will not die by anyone's hands, so please don’t worry. And if I do die it won’t be your fault, it will be my own. I mean you must accept reality that life isn’t perfect nor will it ever be, so stop blaming yourself for something you had no power to stop and learn to live now and make Ella proud when you save the human world.” I said. “And if you want me too, I could act like your mother and feed you, burp you, and change your…” He rolled away from me as I heard a snicker.

“No thanks, I’m good.” I looked over him and pinched his cheeks.

“I see I made someone smile again.” I said winking. I was getting ready to leave to give him some space, but he stopped me. Grabbing my wrist his hand felt warm like his pain was finally lifted off his heart. I smiled at the feeling. “Please don’t go!” he exclaimed.

“Okay.” I replied snuggling down in his nice and cozy bed. My hand was still in his hold all night long and all I could do was squeeze it tight in return.
