Crescent Moon CH 2.2
“Yes?”
I noticed he was looking at me strangely and with that, I came back to reality.
“Oh,
nothing…just… thank you for saving me.” I said. “Oh by the way where are
the groceries?”
“Huh,
oh there at the manor already.” I looked at him shocked.
“What?
I’m just a really fast shopper.” he answered while smiling.

We
returned home and I helped him unload the bags on the counter. I was watching him
closely, trying to peer at his eyes once again and like before at the market
they were normal. “Man, maybe I really
I’m just crazy”. I thought. I bent down to put the new supply of dish soap
under the kitchen sink. “So, do you really have a shank or were you just trying
to act tough?” I heard him ask. I looked over at him while smiling.
“What’s
it to you? Maybe I do maybe I don’t. Just don’t ever try to scare me and you’ll
never find out.” I said, winking. He smiled back and stepped closer towards me
one arm behind his back. When he stopped, he was standing over me. We made eye
to eye contact and I could feel my cheeks getting warmer.
“Well
if you don’t tell me then I won’t give you this…” he revealed ice cream all
made up in a sundae glass. I could feel my mouth water because it was my
favorite flavor.
“Cookie
and Crème.” he said. I looked at him and smiled. Him knowing I was about to
give in to the request.
“Yes,
I have a shank.” I puffed. He handed me the bowl and I sat down at the table to
eat it. It was so delicious and moist that I couldn’t help but let out a tiny “oh…”
I could tell Alexander was watching because when I looked over at him he turned
his head very quickly, but I could tell from his bright red ear tips that he
was blushing. I finished the ice cream and walked over to the sink to wash the
bowl, but a plastic bag stood in my path causing me to fall and with glass in
my hand this wasn’t going to be good. I closed my eyes ready for impact when
suddenly I felt a warm set of hands grip my waist. I opened my eyes to find
Alexander was holding me up and the glass bowl was in his other free hand. Once
again, we had eye contact, but this moment was different, within his eyes I
could see sadness and depression.
“Woah
it’s okay Alexander. No need to look so depressed. I mean if I would have fallen
I would have been fine.” I tried to explain, but all he did was nod and walk
away. “Thanks though!” I shouted before he completely left the room.
My
parents were still gone, but they did call and check on me like I was some kid,
but I didn’t mind right now. I went to my room and changed into a one-piece
swimsuit. My favorite one too, solid black material with white diagonal
stripes. I laid back on a lawn chair at the pool with my sunglasses on and my
tablet right next to me playing some up-toon beats. I was humming one song when
Alexander came into my mind knocking me off focus. His sad eyes were killer on
my heart and I couldn’t get it out my head. But not only that, but the staff,
his demon form, and these so-called powers. I needed answers but just couldn’t
find them. It was irritating, but like they always say ‘patience is key’.
I got
up and walked over to the pool looking at the water seeing a reflection of me
in it, but then suddenly the image changed and it turned into me wearing
crescent moon earrings and wearing a silver chained halo on my head with my
eyes glowing white. Shaking my head, I jumped in the pool and tried swimming
some laps. Then just like that a breeze hit my face and yes, it did feel nice,
but with that breeze came a shiver. I turned my head and took a breath it was
only Alexander bringing me a towel. I took it as he helped me out of the pool.
“Thanks”
I said, wiping myself dry.
“No
problem at all. It is my job after all.” he said with that accent. He looked
down for a minute then back up at me. “I also wish to apologize about earlier.
When saving you from falling old memories came back of me lacking to protect
someone and..” I stopped him from talking by pushing him in the pool. He
surfaced with an angry look on his face.
“What
the hell did you do that for?” he screamed normally. I snickered a little as I
bent down to meet him eye to eye.
“Hey,
it’s how I show tough love. Look I know we don’t know each other all that well
but I know your pain. I tried protecting someone from being hurt, but I failed
at it, trust me I know that too well. But all I can say is you learn to keep
walking forward, not letting the past define you and who you are.” I explained
giving him a supporting smile while extending my hand. He smiled back and
reached for my hand to only pull me in with him. I surfaced giving him the eye
but all he did was laugh and I couldn’t help but laugh with him. “Thank you” he
said in between laughs. As a response all I did was wink.
